10歳の頃からずっと字幕付きのアニメを見続けてきたおかげで、日本語の聞き取りができるようになったと言っても冗談ではありません（今は18歳です）。日本語の音韻が耳に入りやすいため、フランス語のように聞き取りにくい言語とは異なります。専門用語がたくさん含まれていない限り、ほとんどのアニメを字幕なしで見ることができます。ただし、文字を読むことはできず、日本語でまとまった文章を作ることもできません（言語の理解と言語表現スキルには、脳の異なる部分が関与しています）。もしかしたら、母国語が語順や文法構造が日本語と似ているため、少しは助けになったのかもしれません。
I am not joking when I say I learned to understand spoken Japanese just by watching subbed anime for years ever since I was a 10 yo kid(now I’m 18)
It helps that your ears can easily pick up Japanese phonetics unlike unintelligible languages like french.
I can watch almost all anime without subs given they aren’t filled with technical jargon. That being said, I can’t even read kana and I can’t form coherent sentences in Japanese(different parts of brain are involved in language comprehension and articulation skills anyway)
Maybe the fact that my native language has similar word order and grammatical structures helped me a bit? Idk

ankiアプリとか他の教材使いつつ毎日アニメ漬けで、言葉の理解がグンと深まるんだよな。
でも字幕オンリーで行くと、字幕が創造力爆発させてるせいで、言葉の意味を間違えて覚える可能性があるんだよね。
もうちょい言葉の理解があるなら、漢字の勉強もやるべきだよ。
I combine Anki with other learning resources and watching anime daily and it helps cement understanding of the language a lot.
Problem with exclusively watching subbed is that subs often take a lot of creative liberties so you could be learning wrong meanings of words.
If you already have somewhat of an understanding you may as well take the extra step and learn kanji.

アニメ見てると確かに日本語のリスニング力は上がるよね。新しい単語とか、たまに文法（これは難しいけど）にも触れられるし。実際に数年間教室で日本語の勉強もしてたんだよ。それ以前は、アニメの字幕で聞くようなありきたりなフレーズやカタカナ英語くらいしか分からなかったけどね。
専門用語も関ある程度理解できるけど。それがめちゃくちゃ多い番組やシーン見てると、自分が馬鹿になったみたいに感じる。
Watching anime did give me a greater understanding of spoken Japanese in terms of introducing me to new vocabulary and more rarely grammar (since that’s harder) but I’d also actually studied the language in a classroom for a couple years. Before then the most I understood of the Japanese in subbed anime was just the random stock phrases you’d hear in any show and English loan words etc.
But I get what you mean about technical jargon. It makes me feel like a fucking idiot watching a show/scene that’s really heavy on that.

I heard a couple of tourists speak Japanese in my town and I wanted to style a bit so I pointed at one of the women’s shoes and said “kawai” and when they got confused and asked me something in Japanese I had to say “wakarimasen” and shrug and walk away. I was very embarrassed.

短い文なら大体理解できるんだけど、すぐに理解不能になるんだよね。聞いた順番と自分で訳すスピードが、話されてるスピードに追いつかないって感じ。
I can understand most short sentences, but spirals out of control very quickly. Like, the order of which I hear it and translate it to myself can’t keep up with the way it’s being said.

アニメの語彙って基本的に一般的ではないから、あんまり学べてないと思うよ。
基本的なこと、例えば「かわいい」「それは悪いね」みたいなのは、どの初級コースでも習うし。でも、漫画を読むのはめっちゃ役に立つよ。日本語で難しいのって漢字だけだし、漫画ならそれにも役立つし、ふりがなもたくさんあるしな。
Anime has terrible vocabulary in general, so you’re probably not learning that much.
You learn the basic shit like e.g. kawaii, sore wa warui ne, in any first semester course. Reading manga however helps a lot. Kanji is the only difficult part of Japanese, manga will help with that, besides having lots of furigana

言語の習得方法は人それぞれだと思うよ。理論的な言語構造が全然分かってないのに、めちゃくちゃ早く言語を覚える奴がいる。構造をどうやって知ってるのか聞くと、「そういうものだ」としか言わないんだ。
I believe people can learn languages in different ways. I know a dude who dorsn’t really get how language structure works in theory at all, but still picks them up incredibly fast. If you ask him how he knows the structure he just says it’s supposed to be that way

アニメ見て基本的な単語は覚えたけど、ニコニコの実況プレイにハマってからマジで日本語スキルが上がり始めたんだよね。カナ以外で日本語を本気で勉強したことはないけど、字幕なしのコンテンツでも楽しめるくらいには日本語わかるようになった。ニコニコ動画に感謝だよ。
I got basic vocabulary from watching anime but I only started truly leveling up when I got into niconico let’s plays. I never sat down to grind Japanese (aside from kana) but I understand Japanese well enough to enjoy non-subtitled content. Thanks niconico.
