Fate/stay night　　セイバールート　　あらすじ

冬木の地にて執り行われる“根源”へ至ろうとする魔術師たちの儀式。
手に入れた者のあらゆる願いを叶える願望機“聖杯”を呼び水にして7人の魔術師“マスター”が集う。
マスターは聖杯の招きに応じる英霊“サーヴァント”を召喚し、最後の一人になるまで覇を競い合う。
これまで四度開催されるも、いまだ聖杯を手にする勝者は現れず。

十年前、第四次聖杯戦争の戦火の中で衛宮士郎は自らを魔術師と名乗る衛宮切嗣に助けられる。
彼の元で生活を始めた少年は反対されながらも魔術の教えを請う。
そうして過ごした切嗣との最期の夜、「正義の味方」になることを誓う。

時は流れ、現在。
平穏な日々を過ごしていたとある夜、聖杯戦争に巻き込まれ、サーヴァントの襲撃を受ける。
眼前に迫る攻撃、それは突如現れた騎士の少女によって阻まれる。
「正義の味方」を志す少年を助けたサーヴァント、剣の英霊によって命を救われたマスター。

UBWは他の2ルートに比べて明るすぎるよな。
士郎には何でも上手くいくし、パワーアップも多い（ペナルティなしで）、彼や大多数のキャラにとって一番いいエンディングだと思う。セイバーも自分のルートじゃないのに、お邪魔虫としては残れてるし。

UBW is too high spirited compared to the other two routes. Everything just goes right for Shirou, he gets the most power ups (without penalty), and it has arguably the best ending for him and the majority of the characters. Even Saber gets to stick around as a third wheel when it’s not her route.

Ever route has it’s caveats but the Fate route is objectively the route where Shirou got all he wanted without compromising/outright abandoning his dream.

Fateのエンディングが一番だと思うのは、ほろ苦くて美しいから。壊れた二人の魂が出会い、互いに後悔を抱えずに済むようになった結末なんだ。他のルートは普通のロマンチックでハッピーエンドだけど、Fateのエンディングはその少ないロマンスの儚さが美しい。

戦いの仲間としてのロマンスで、ただの男と女が恋に落ちるわけじゃない。何があったかのロマンスであり、それが終わることでお互いの過去と未来を根本的に変えてしまう悲劇なんだ。

エンディングは、読者の切望や最高のワイフと一緒にいたいという気持ちと重なる。俺は、全てのセイバーのファンボーイが士郎として強く生きなきゃいけないと思ってるんじゃないかって考えてる。そうすることで、またワイフと再会できるって。彼女が実在しないってことは、ただのアニメの女の子以上の感情的な背景を持っていて、愛し始めたけどもういない人なんだよ。

Fate has the best ending because it’s bittersweet and beautiful. It’s the finale of two souls who were broken but found each other and managed to prevent each other from living with regret. The other routes end with regular romantic and happy endings, but Fate’s ending was beautiful in how fleeting their small amount of romance was. It was a romance from camaraderie in battle, between two companions, and not one of just a guy and a girl falling in love. Its the romance of what could have been, and the tragedy of it ending but fundamentally changing each other’s past and future.

The ending parallels the reader’s feelings of longing and the desire to be with the best waifu. I theorize that all Saber fanboys see themselves as Shirou having to live strong lives so that they can be reunited with their waifu once again. It makes the fact that she isn’t real have an emotional context beyond her just being an anime girl, but a person you grew to love but is no longer alive.

FateとUBWは一枚のコインの裏表みたいなもんだよな。HFは別のビジュアルノベルになる予定だったのに、両方のルートを無理やりくっつけて、FSNにサッと乗っけて出したって感じ。結局、セイバーと凛だけで価格を上げようとして、余計な作業をやらずに済ませたんだろう。日本のHFの評価はイマイチで、桜をヒロインとして好きじゃないって意見が多かった。

イリヤのルートを「削除した」とは言えないと思う。ゲーム内にはその名残がまだ残ってるからな。作家は大体、全体のアウトラインを作るけど、理由があって全部を入れないことが多い。読者に自分で考えさせたいのか、関係ないから省いたのか、未来のために取っておいたのか、色々あるんだろう。

Fate and UBW are two sides of one coin. HF was supposed to be a different VN. He smashed both routes together and rushed them out to slap onto FSN which was only gonna be Saber and Rin so he could up the price of the game and weasel out of doing extra work. The Nihongo reception to HF was very mediocre, most saying they didn’t like Sakura as a Heroine because she was bland.

I wouldn’t say they really “scrapped” Illya’s route since pieces of the thing are still in the game. Writers often have a complete outline written out, but they won’t put all of it in for a number of reasons. Maybe they want the reader to piece it together on their own, maybe it’s just not relevant, saving it for the future, etc.
