あらすじ 第6幕 「商人と理不尽な神」
ミローネ商会の手を借り、無事にホロを取り戻したロレンス。
しかし、再会を喜ぶ間もなく、メディオ商会に追われ、二人は地下水路を逃げ回ることに。
地上を目指して進んでいくが、次第に追手の声が近づいてきて……。
そして行く手を阻まれ、深手を負い追い詰められた二人の前に、思いもかけない人物が姿を現した。

旧版もラノベも見たことないけど、なんか驚いたわ。「ほら、うちの嫁さんが伝説の狼で、実は豊穣の女神なんだよ」という説明をあいつがあっさり受け入れるって。設定的には、古い神々が中央集権的な宗教や新しい合理性に忘れ去られていくって話だと思ってたんだけど。古い超自然的存在が隠れている意味って何？それに、ホロが捕まるとかどうとか、彼女が穀物の中にいれば問題ないんじゃないの？穀物から再び現れることができないの？
I never watched the original, nor I read the LN, but I’m a little surprised how much easily the dude accepted the explanation “Look, my wife is the legendary Wolf and basically a fertility goddess”, I tought the setting was about old gods being forgetten in favor of centralized religion and new rationalities. What’s even be the point of old supernatural entities stay hidden? Also why there is a problem if Holo is captured etc if she stay in the grain? She can’t just respawn from the grain?

確かに、教会に送られることがどうしてそんなに脅威なのか、彼もわからず混乱していたよね。彼女が異教の「何か」であることを受け入れやすかったのは、それが相手の行動を急に理にかなっているように見せたからかもしれない。彼は彼女を文字通りの巨大な狼ではなく、「狼の化身」としての巫女や神社の巫女のようなものだと考えていたのかもしれないね。でも、どちらにせよそれは重要じゃない。さらに、これは啓蒙前の設定のようだから、教会の影響が古い信仰を駆逐していても、今日私たちが持っているような、そういったものが存在しない、あるいは存在し得ないという自動的な前提はなかっただろう。麦については、ホロにとっては不快な体験になるだろうし、最後の手段としてしかないと想定されるね。
I get what you’re saying, but he was also confused why being sent to the church was such a threat. I think her being a pagan “something” was easier to accept since it suddenly made the actions of the other party make sense. I suppose he could be thinking she’s something like a priestess or shrine maiden as “wolf incarnate” rather than a literal giant wolf. But in any case it doesn’t matter. Plus this seems to be set pre-enlightenment. So although the the influence of the church would be pushing out old beliefs there also wouldn’t be the automatic assumption that such things do not nor could not exist theat we would have today. As for the wheat I can only assume that would be an unpleasant experience for Holo and only there as a last resort.

Yes. Holo is a HUGE tease and likes playfully toying with Lawrence. She is flattered by him showing devotion and/or concern. Plus, he LITERALLY shouted he’d chase after her for money as a way to convince her to not leave him. She bought supplies for trip and then sent him the bill as a teasing way to say “come and get me” in kind.
